Main Line Art Center

Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Main Line Art Center’s FAQ page! Here we will address our community’s most popular questions and points of confusion in one convenient place. If your question is not addressed below, please send us an email at or call 610.525.0272.

What is an Art Center?
An art center is a place where the community comes together to create art, grow and develop in their artistic practice, and find inspiration. To sum it up simply, Main Line Art Center is this community’s home for creativity! We foster growth in a variety of mediums through the art classes we offer to adults, children, and people with special needs, and we encourage art appreciation and promote up-and-coming artists through the exhibitions featured in our award-winning galleries. You can learn more about us on our mission and history page.

I’ve never taken an art class before. Where do I start?
First of all, welcome to our creative community! You are going to love it here! Our classes are fun, our expert Teaching Artists will make you feel comfortable, AND Main Line Art Center routinely wins awards for outstanding art instruction. In other words, you’ve come to the right place. Before you get started, check out our beginners page. Here you’ll find info about our new Sneak Peek Week and Discovery classes, designed for new adult artists. We also offer Sneak Peek Week classes for children. If at any time you need help finding the class that is right for you, please call our registrar at 610.525.0272 ext. 110.

What goes into the cost of my class?
Your tuition and registration processing fee ($4.95) pays for direct class costs, like Teaching Artist salaries, supplies, and studio expenses, however it does NOT cover the total cost of running classes at the Art Center. This is why, as a non-profit, donations and membership are vital to the health of our organization.

Do you have to be a Member to take classes at Main Line Art Center?
You do not have to be a Member to take classes at the Art Center. However, Membership has its perks! Members receive benefits for a full year, including discounts on tuitions for classes and workshops, discounts to local art supply stores, and more. Read more on our Membership page.

Do you offer tuition assistance or scholarships?
Main Line Art Center provides over $12,000 in need-based tuition assistance and scholarships each year so that children, adults, seniors and veterans can participate in our programs regardless of their financial situation. Applications will be considered on a first come, first serve basis until funds are dispersed.

Do I need to purchase supplies for my classes?
Teachers will sometimes suggest or require certain supplies for their class, which will be indicated through a supply list in the class description. Ceramic classes that work with clay will require you to purchase your own clay, which you can purchase at the Art Center. Some teachers will require a supply fee for specialty items they have acquired for you, which should be paid on the first day of class.

Do you offer discounts?
Main Line Art Center has several discount options, such as our Early Registration discount ($10 off Foundation, Classics, or Special Topics if you register by a certain date each session) or Multi-Class discount, which you can read about in our policies. We also offer a reduced rate on our classes and workshops to our Members.

What if I don’t like my class?
We understand that circumstances come up and not every student can continue with a class, so you can either withdraw or switch. If you would like to withdraw from the class a processing fee will be applied, please see our policies for more information. You may also switch into a different class within a given session, in which case the withdrawal fees will be waived.

I’m interested in a private class. Is that possible?
