Carl Duzen: Copper Making Meaning From Dementia

August 1 – August 29, 2017

On view in our first floor Welcome Gallery from August 1-August 29: a summer gallery rental exhibition featuring the copper art of Carl Duzen, a former physics educator who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014. The exhibition starts with Carl extracting the copper wire from electronics, and organizing it into various forms. His wife, artist Susan Jewett, then selects the most intriguing forms and places them against various backgrounds and in spatial relationships within art box frames. While these art pieces are born from a dementia diagnosis, they demonstrate the need to go forward with purpose, create a different meaningful path, and maintain hope and passion.

An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Wednesday, August 9, from 5:30 pm -7:30pm.
