Children's Book Illustrator Fair
Date: Jan 30, 2010
Time: 12 pm - 5 pm
Location: Main Line Art Center - Free and Open to the Public

Main Line Art Center and Children's Book World join together to celebrate the great art of children's books. Look at books through the eyes of the illustrators as you meet with the artists, view their work in our gallery, hear more about their process and purchase books to be autographed.  From 2-4 pm, the Art Center will run a special drop-in craft for kids...make your own flip book!  The 2010 Children's Book Illustrator Fair is sponsored by Beneficial Bank.

Confirmed Illustrators:

Lee Harper: Lee Harper is a painter and illustrator living with his family in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Lee is the illustrator of Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano, Woolbur by Leslie Helakoski, and Snow! Snow! Snow!  the first book he has both written and illustrated. Lee also illustrated Looking For The Easy Life, by Walter Dean Myers, which will be coming out in the winter of 2010. You can visit Lee online at Leeharperart.com.

Ponder Goembel: Illustrator of Castaway Cats, Mr. Mosquito Wears a Tuxedo and Swamp Song. Ponder grew up in Baltimore, a cultural city with an artistic community. She attended classes at the Maryland Institute of Art, and later majored in illustration at Philadelphia College of Art, now part of the University of the Arts. Her first children’s book, Hear The Wind Blow, required only ten black and white illustrations inside and one full color jacket. It seemed a small job but was a stepping stone to more colorful things. Ponder’s first picture book and her first child came at about the same time. Reading to her daughter was only one of the many experiences that convinced her to create more art for children. Ponder now creates illustrations almost exclusively for children’s publications. She is a frequent visitor to schools, libraries and book stores where she loves to talk and show how she creates children’s illustrations. She resides with her husband and two cats in Bucks county Pennsylvania. Visit Ponder's website at www.pondergoembel.com/index.html.

Michael Townsend: Author and Illustrator of Kit Feeny: On the Move and Kit Feeny: The Ugly Necklace.  About Michael (in his own, funny words): My name is Michael Townsend. I was born and raised in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Growing up I loved to draw, read comics, watch cartoons, and play in the woods. When I finished high school I went to art school at The School Of Visual Arts in NYC. Now I live in Philadelphia and I work as a Children’s book writer and illustrator (which is awesome fun). Someday, I will die. Visit Michael's website at www.mikeisgreathelikeschocolatecake.com.

Mark Rogalski: Author and Illustrator of Robox, Tickets to Ride and Dream Machines. Learn more about Mark on his website: markrogalski.com/.

Charles Santore: Illustrator of The Fox and the Rooster, The Complete Tales of Peter Rabbit, The Little Mermaid: The Original Story and many more.

Eric Wight:Eric Wight is the author and illustrator of Frankie Pickle, a new chapter book series published by Simon & Schuster.  Prior to that, he was an animator for almost ten years for such companies as Walt Disney, Warner Bros., and Cartoon Network.  Wight's comic book adaptation of the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay helped garner both the Harvey and Eisner Awards for Best Anthology, as well as the Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer, and his debut graphic novel My Dead Girlfriend was listed among the 2008 Great Graphic Novels for Teens by YALSA.  His artwork has also been prominently featured on such television series as The O.C. and Six Feet Under.
