Main-Lining Ceramics

As part of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), Main Line Art Center will present a juried exhibition of artists working with ceramics from PA, NJ, DE, DC, MD and NY. Ceramic work can include sculpture, installations, mixed media and new technologies. This exhibition promotes the idea of pushing boundaries and expectations for working with clay.

If you have always wanted to give raku a try, now is your chance. Main Line Art Cnter Raku Guild is hosting a First Friday firing. We will show you how we load, run and pull from the raku kiln. If you have done raku or always wanted to give it a try, please join us. Bring your raku bisque fired and glazed piece to the firing. The piece must have been built using raku clay and glazed with raku glazes. You can purchase your clay through the Art Center and use the glazes in our glaze room. The cost is $10 and your piece can not exceed 6" x 6" and may not be more than 10" tall. Please register in advance, space is limited! Observers are welcome!

About the Juror:
Glen R. Brown is a critic and full professor of art history at Kansas State University. An elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics in Geneva, Switzerland, he has written extensively about contemporary and historical ceramics.
His publications have appeared in more than thirty different journals, including Ceramics: Art and Perception; Cerámica; American Ceramics; Ceramics Monthly; American Craft; Sculpture; Ceramics Technical; Temperature; Sculpture (Beijing); Ceramic Review; Kerameiki Techni; The NCECA Journal; and World Sculpture News.
In addition to writing about ceramics he has authored numerous publications on contemporary metalwork, jewelry, and textile art and is a regular contributor to Ornament magazine. Since 2004 he has been an Associate Fellow of the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and he is currently treasurer of the Kansas Artist Craftsmen Association.
